Thursday afternoon at The International Veins Meeting 2017

The emphasis on Pelvic Congestion Syndrome continued in the Auditorium on the 2nd day of the College of Phlebology 1st International Veins Meeting.

The focus of the first session during the afternoon was Pelvic Vein Embolization, chaired by Consultant Interventional Radiologist, Doctor Previn Diwakar.

Having been involved in developing The Whiteley Clinic’s pelvic embolization service, Doctor Diwakar was well placed to chair this session that received a lot of interest from a busy auditorium.

Doctor Andrew Willis gave a brief presentation on the different coils used for pelvic vein embolization and went on to introduce and outline the procedure about to be performed on a 45 year old patient with bi-lateral, recurrent varicose veins.

Doctor Willis then handed over to Doctor David Beckett and his surgical team who were ready to perform a live pelvic vein embolization procedure on the patient that delegates had seen having a TransVaginal Scan during the earlier morning session.

Throughout the pelvic vein embolization procedure delegates were able to ask questions to Doctor Beckett who talked to the audience via a microphone link throughout the 3 vein coil embolization procedure. This live session was sponsored by Boston Scientific who manufacture and supply the coils used for these procedures.

The session proved to be extremely popular, with several delegates feeding back that the entire day’s agenda could be repeated at the conference next year.
